SSH troubleshooting

  • Status Summary is showing SSH services in an Unknown state:
    • Check to see if the GroundWork server id_rsa.pub public key contents is also in the Remote server authorized_keys file.
      1. Open a terminal session to the GroundWork server.
      2. Become the root user, and change to the gw8 directory.
      3. Cat the public key id_rsa.pub, previously copied from the Nagios container.
      4. Open a second terminal session to the Remote server.
      5. Become the root user, then nagios, and change to the .ssh directory.
      6. Cat the authorized_keys file and look for the same contents as the GroundWork server public key id_rsa.pub contents.
      7. Also, there is a host verification requirement to contact the remote server from within the Nagios container on the GroundWork server.
    • For more information see the article How to monitor hosts using SSH in the section Copying keys from GroundWork to remote.
  • SSH services are not displayed for my SSH monitored host:
    • Check to see if the SSH profiles are part of the host configuration.
      1. Go to Configuration > Nagios Monitoring > Hosts, select the SSH monitored host, select Detail.
      2. Check to see if the Host Profile host-profile-ssh-unix is configured or if the Service Profiles tab shows existing SSH services - and adjust as needed.
    • For more information se the article How to monitor hosts using SSH in the section Importing Profiles and Creating a New Host.
